The SOS Culture project that has been launched in January 2012 by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) very soon will start its implementation phase in Lori and Tavush regions. SOS Culture is the first EU funded project of FPWC and is implemented in cooperation with two partners: dvv international Georgia Country Office and Research on Armenian Architecture Foundation (RAA).

The aim of the project is the preservation of abandoned and ruined cultural assets and raising awareness about them. Under the slogan “save, preserve and care” the project will work across borders protecting cultural heritage in remote regions of Armenia and Georgia. It will include cultural assets of different origin by underlying that cultural assets belong to everybody regardless of nationality and religion.

In the framework of the project eight youth clubs were established: four in Georgia and four in Armenia. The Armenian clubs are located in Varagavan, Berdavan, Alaverdi and Akhtala. The Club members (13-20 years old) will participate in different training courses as well as in cultural preservation field work and summer schools. Supervised by experts they will learn how to care for cultural monuments which are located nearby their villages. As a result of the project they will produce video films, photo stories and a database which will be publish on the SOS Culture web site in four languages: Armenian, English, Georgian and Russian.

The four SOS Culture Youth Clubs in Armenia have more than 180 members already who are eager to start the activities and to explore the monuments in the vicinities of their villages. Fully furnished and equipped the SOS Culture Youth Clubs are ready for the intensive summer training courses that will start on June 11th.
